The New Mexico Counseling Association (NMCA) is a state branch of the American Counseling Association (ACA). It is the only state association in New Mexico with a national affiliation that represents professional counselors. NMCA encompasses a broad spectrum of groups in the field of professional counseling and provides an opportunity for sharing and professional growth.

NMCA serves a coordinating role for  five divisions: New Mexico School Counselors Association, Licensed Professional Counselors Association New Mexico, New Mexico Association of Counselor Education and Supervision, New Mexico Career Development Association and New Mexico Association of Spiritual, Ethical and Religious Values in Counseling.
 
NMCA supports state-wide licensing of professional counselors and provides services to help counselors meet the continuing educational requirements of licensure.
 
NMCA maintains liaison with the National Board for Certified Counselors .
 
NMCA promotes ethical standards and responds to the ethical and legal questions of members.
 
NMCA publishes a quarterly newsletter which keeps counselors up to date on current state issues and practices.
 
NMCA offers professional growth in the way of an annual state conference, as well as division workshops, and networking opportunities with professional practitioners.
 
NMCA is involved at national and regional levels. It has close affiliations with the ACA and the ACA regional organization, the Western Regional Branch Assembly.
 
NMCA recognizes individual and groups who have rendered outstanding service to the profession of counseling through The George Keppers Award.
